“The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern is magical in a way that few books are. All the imagery is so carefully considered to bring the dazzling world to life until you feel like you are in the circus yourself. I read this book several years ago and before deciding to reread it this summer I held the impression that I had greatly enjoyed it for its mysterious and enchanting world, but I couldn’t remember all the specifics of it. Rereading it I noticed just how much had flown over my little middle school head, but it was so interesting to put together pieces from my memory with what I was currently reading. The layout of the book is largely non-linear so I do recommend it more for a older audience as it is a lot to keep track of and I think you will, as I did, get much more out of it when you’re better able to follow it without getting overwhelmed. One of my favorite parts of this book was the very descriptive writing style because I am somebody who loves visualizing the worlds about which I am reading, so that is also something to keep in mind if that’s less your style. From the mystery of it all to the characters to the world of this circus, this book hooked by attention right away and kept me reading until the last page where everything was finally tied up with a perfect bow, immersing me while reading and still having the satisfying end of a good book. If you have read this book, enjoyed it, and are looking for something with a similar feel, I would also recommend the book/series “Caraval” by Stephanie Garber.
