A page-turner mystery. A bit on the graphic side regarding the crime. The author had me guessing to the end. Even at the end, I wanted to look back to see what clues I missed in guessing the correct culprit.

An excellent literary read about what it means and what it takes for individuals and communities to forget.

A book so unfortunately real that I was cringing at many parts. It manages to also be funny and cutting.

People Get Ready

What I found interesting about this book is that each activist highlighted wasn’t presented as perfect. They had very real flaws and failings, so I thought this book was quite nuanced. I did like the previous volume better, as I felt the stories were more powerful. I particularly liked Ramon Quinones’ story in this one though!

For those people who recognize their constant need to control, or at least impart their suggestions or guidance though it may not always be warranted, this book helps you recognize that and recover from years of intolerance of other people's behaviors. It serves as a stepping stone to learn to focus your energies more on yourself, all while letting others make their own mistakes and face their own challenges because that's just it, it's their life to lead and sometimes they have to make the mistakes to encounter their growth. So let them be in control and let you take care of your own needs.

Nice book for the people pleasers in the world who are trying to get better at not caring about what other people think about them or what they do.

My favorite book in this series! Harry finally finds some “family” in his father’s closet friends, Sirius and Remus—even though they aren’t going to be able to be together much—and I enjoy the way things aren’t what they seem…

The Night Circus
by Erin Morgenstern

“The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern is magical in a way that few books are. All the imagery is so carefully considered to bring the dazzling world to life until you feel like you are in the circus yourself. I read this book several years ago and before deciding to reread it this summer I held the impression that I had greatly enjoyed it for its mysterious and enchanting world, but I couldn’t remember all the specifics of it. Rereading it I noticed just how much had flown over my little middle school head, but it was so interesting to put together pieces from my memory with what I was currently reading. The layout of the book is largely non-linear so I do recommend it more for a older audience as it is a lot to keep track of and I think you will, as I did, get much more out of it when you’re better able to follow it without getting overwhelmed. One of my favorite parts of this book was the very descriptive writing style because I am somebody who loves visualizing the worlds about which I am reading, so that is also something to keep in mind if that’s less your style. From the mystery of it all to the characters to the world of this circus, this book hooked by attention right away and kept me reading until the last page where everything was finally tied up with a perfect bow, immersing me while reading and still having the satisfying end of a good book. If you have read this book, enjoyed it, and are looking for something with a similar feel, I would also recommend the book/series “Caraval” by Stephanie Garber.
